Look Out

A day of domestic “chores” looms. One of the things I need to do is a big supermarket shop, so I head towards town. Opportunities for photography are going to be limited today.

Before I head into the supermarket I walk across the road to take a pic of St Elphin’s church, the spire of which is apparently the third highest in the country (so it’s a bronze medal winner). I notice a sign board outside the church door, which as I get closer announces that it is “Brick Festival Day”. So I go in.

I’m told by a lady at the door that they have to use the word “brick” because they aren’t allowed to use the word “Lego”. There is a lot of Lego - and other crafts for sale - in the church. I have a good look around and decide to make a contribution by buying a mug of coffee, a slice of cake, and a homemade apple pie to take home,

A lady parishioner tells me something of the history of the church, and when I have finished coffee gets a key and takes me and another lady with kids in tow down into the medieval crypt under the chancel. It has a damp floor as it floods when the Mersey floods (which is fairly often) - extra.

An interesting interlude to today’s domestics.
