A crane??

I’m not an expert on bird species, but this looks like a heron to me.

The article was in today's Yorkshire Post, Country Post, supplement.
I wonder if Bill Teale, who wrote the article, checked the picture.
There are going to be a lot of excited people in Yorkshire thinking they have spotted a rare bird.
