Hoi polloi

I had a good lunch meeting in the city centre and was returning to the office in a tuk-tuk. Along one of the main thoroughfares (Bagamoyo Road) where we needed to turn right, we sat for at least thirty minutes whilst police stopped all traffic. I was getting increasingly puzzled and overheated, until finally the vanguard of a huge motorcade started passing. It must have been the President and her entourage to force the roads to shut down. For a passing VIP the hoi polloi has no choice other than to wait and watch.
