While on my runs

Waiting for a car to come by

A lot of tidying up after yesterday's celebration. Both S and I were very pleased with how good it was to have the gathering at our house. There was good in/out flow, a place for smokers (the carport, with chairs, table and soft drinks), and multiple places to stand or sit out the back. No loud music to upset the neighbours.

Late this afternoon I went for a brisk work along the lower pipeline then up the steep track to the upper pipeline and back home. I've been hearing a lot of Tui recently, but rarely caught sight of any. Today I did see one, deep in a tree's branches and leaves. My photograph was not as good as the one i'm posting of a welcome swallow; Maori have named it Warou.

This one was circling around as cars approached, and then resting briefly on the wire until the next car came. It also seemed that my presence disturbed the tiny insects on which the Warou feeds.
