Fablas Ice Cream, Penarth

“We measured our success not just by how much money we made, but by how much we contributed to the community. It was a two-part bottom line.”
Jerry Greenfield
Went to Penarth this morning with K1 for a change of air and a stroll along the prom. Weather warm and sunny with a thin veil of cloud when we arrived, a walk along the prom to the pier and the pavilion for a coffee and cake. Made the obligatory circuit of the pier before heading uphill to show K1 a newbuild house I photographed for a magazine commission fifteen years ago! Carried on along the street looking for a path down into the park, and eventually found a narrow lane near the back of the RNLI station. Followed the path through Windsor Gardens to the headland past a lovely little ice cream place at the old Lodge. Just beyond was a beautiful timber bus shelter so we sat for a few minutes to enjoy our ice creams (raspberry ripple, delicious – Fablas!) before carrying on along the cliff path.
Missed my turning at Cogan Hill on the way out later and headed back along Penarth Road, just by the old pumping station, now an antiques place. K1’s wanted to have a look around for years so we went in; surprisingly interesting in there with all sorts of stuff I hadn’t imagined, not at all what I’d expected - I’ll have to be careful!
It was about 3pm so I suggested nipping in to Ikea quickly to have a look at a replacement bed K1 had seen. When we got to the first floor the bed was on display there with all the details, so we didn’t have to go through the huge showroom to find it, we were out in twenty minutes and (just) managed to get the enormous packs squeezed into the car (with our seats forward). A busy day for a non-shopper so called in to Page’s to build up my reserves for the bed assembly work ahead!
