La Torre de Amado
La Torre de Amado ("Amado's Tower") stands up on one of the oldest houses in Xico, Veracruz. Amado Izaguirre has been Xico's official chronicler for a very long time. He lives in that big old house in front of the "portals" (gateways), which is also an art and antiques gallery. It contains mainly religious art from the XVIII century. Between us, I have slept a couple of times in that house and I have to say that it IS spooky. With very tall ceilings, religious figures and a lot of mysteries and legends about ghosts... Yet it is amazing!
I happend to know Amado and we became good friends. Now, always when I go to Xalapa, I travel 30 min by bus to visit Amado in Xico, where, moreover, the food is excellent and the little streets and alleys are beautiful. Xico has now officially become "Pueblo Mágico" (Magic Town) and it has a lot to offer to locals and tourists. Undoubtedly another place to visit.
