With the proposed bike ride to Forthbank not happening on Saturday, in a bid to get the required bike miles I suggested a dog walk go the MiL's in Haggs.
Train at 0930; I baled off at Linlithgow and hit the canal towpath path , leaving Loki and his handler to continue on to Camelon, and the rendezvous arranged for Bonnybridge-ish
A tail wind helped and I'd a minor diversion planned thru Hallglen. It's a wee suburb / scheme on the southern edge of Falkirk- it came to my attention via Alan Bissett's book Boyracers - a semi autobiographical tale of - well - boy racers in Hallglen. Full disclosure - I do like a 60s scheme. I'm happy pottering about in Glenrothes or Cumbernauld or Broxburn or... ach there's loads of these wee places tucked away between the monarchs of the Glen and the quaint castles that Scotland is littered with.
So I diverted off the canal and off into the hinterland- here's a photo of the local bus stop.
Then I got lost, but when you're heading for the Falkirk Wheel you're not long in reorientating yourself.
Onto the canal, I found Loki et al at pretty much the misnamed Bonnybridge. Clue - it does have a bridge.
Onwards to the MiL and obligatory 10 minutes of pleasantries before we checked the bus times and decided to walk back to Bonnybridge to pick up the X37 whilst I cycled back to Camelon to meet up and share the train back to Edinburgh
A chicken was procured, and inserted into the oven whilst Scotland got roasted by Greece.... oh well
