Tiny Rewards

This arrived in the post today. Eventually. I've been expecting it for a week or so.

Clue - think of a bank.

OK, giving the mystery away but I've decided to get a new credit card. This one gives tiny rewards (0.25% cashback) but importantly doesn't charge a foreign transaction fee when abroad.

I've actually come full circle now in banking terms. When I was a student and in my first job I was with B. Then they introduced charges and I complained. The manager saw me (yes they had real managers back then) and I will always remember what he said - 'you are the sort of customer we can do without!'. So I left and moved my account to NW, just across the road. On my first visit to cash a cheque (that's what you had to do in those days, no cash machines) the cashier asked me to wait as the manager wanted to see me. He came out from his back office and shook my hand, welcoming me to the bank! My, how banks have changed! My time with NW was short lived though as soon afterwards they closed that branch so I moved up the road to M.

It's (mainly) all on line now. It took me about an hour to activate this card though, I had to go through lots of hoops, including recording a short video of me saying '1-1-1' to prove who I was. That process actually failed but I managed to set up an account and activate the card by using a card reader, ironically supplied by yet another different bank where we have our current account.

I got zilch in the camera club competition last night. I hope I do better in the annuals in a few weeks' time.

I'm off to Ciren again soon though as we have a committee meeting this evening. It's all go at the moment.

I also have some accurate coffee weighing scales now, you know the sort used by drug dealers :-)
