RIP Chrispy
Some sad news today from Goa; he was a lovely, gentle, affectionate dog. He’ll be missed.
One of the many street dogs in the area, he gradually attached himself to Dan &Varnika, eventually coming to live with them.
In the early days, he would come and go as he pleased. One time he didn’t come home. D&V don’t know exactly what happened, but when they found him, he’d been badly injured. The local vet confirmed that his back was broken and the nerves to his rear legs severely damaged. Injuries consistent with beating or kicking, rather than a road accident.
This happened about four years ago. At first - with their help and encouragement - he managed to drag himself about. The main image was taken when we visited at Christmas 2023 (re-processed today). He would stagger around their backyard with an odd, lopsided shuffle and then flop onto the ashes of an old bonfire. It was his favourite spot, for some reason.
When we visited in Christmas 2024, he could no longer get to the backyard unaided. D&V made a harness to support his rear legs which enabled him to walk on his front legs. See extras. They worked hard at this, walking him twice a day.
After Christmas he suddenly deteriorated very quickly. He’s now resting in a corner of the garden where they can keep an eye on him.
