New To Me...

I've been watching the rapid growth of a previously unknown (to me) lily in our front yard. It's an Atamasco lily, Zephyranthes atamasca, aka a 'rain lily'. But this plant isn't small like many 'rain lilies'. Its leaves are a beautiful light green, almost 2 ft long and approx. 1.5 in. in width. The single plant is growing amongst a patch of Amaryllis so I didn't really even notice it. Until it bloomed! And the best part of this is that it's native to the Southeastern U.S, growing happily in swampy forests and coastal prairies. So...probably considered common in many locals but it's 'Special' to me! m
