Far from the madding crowd

Right in the middle of the chaos that is the Edinburgh Festival, St Giles Cathedral provides a bit of peace and quiet.

This is the main organ in the church. It looks pretty ancient to me, but apparently it was only built in 1992. Thus endeth the history lesson.

My main memories of St Giles are from the annual carol concert held there by my daughter's school each Christmas. I couldn't usually see the organ for blinking back sentimental tears as I listened to 'Once in Royal David's City' - always guaranteed to get the parents going.
