A literate fox
Just as Mr hazelh and I were drifting off to sleep last night, we thought that we could hear scuffling outside our bedroom window. We crept out of bed, slowly pulled back the curtains, and opened a crack between the shutters. Then we saw the source of the noise: a fox on the table on our patio. We watched it for a few moments then went back to bed.
This morning I could see some litter on our lawn. This is very unusual, not least because our garden is completed enclosed. On closer inspection I discovered that the litter was shredded packaging for the very posh bar of handmade chocolate that Eileen enclosed with her birthday card for me. Mr hazelh and I ate half of it yesterday afternoon when we sat outside in the garden for a cup of tea. We forgot to bring the chocolate back in with us afterwards. Guess who must have gobbled down the other half of the bar?!!!
I was very disappointed that the chocolate that I saved yesterday for this afternoon was gone forever - until about 17:30 today when I found the items blipped. Our clever fox somehow managed to make a purchase at Tesco, find a pen and paper, hold the pen and write a message for me, open the padlock on the shed, and leave his present on the shed floor. I have to say that I am not convinced by his paw print signature. Still, I now have a nice (full) bar of chocolate to enjoy.
Also today I exercised, finished watching Il gattopardo on Netflix (very good, but I must reread the book in translation to see how much the plot for this televised version departs from that of the novel that I studied in 1984 in the original for my degree), and wrote and submitted an award nomination for a former student.
Mr hazelh tried to buy us tickets for Prima facie when they went on sale at 10:00am, but we had no luck. I have a feeling that I might be disappointed with EIF tickets tomorrow too :-(
Exercise today: 1 hour on the exercise bike; aquafit class; swim (20 lengths); strength training (hard); walking (10,861 steps).
