A window on Eryri
The day starts with a Buck’s Fizz birthday breakfast with Rob and Terry - organised by G. Terry has made me a surprise birthday cake which really is quite amazing. At 69, what could be better than a Willy Wonka chocolate cake overflowing with flakes, fudge bars, chocolate buttons etc - complete with a sparkling fountain candle and other toppers! And of course it’s totally calorie free!!
There are cards, flowers and wine and LOTS of chocolates - enough to last me the rest of the year, if I had any willpower that is!
As it’s a beautiful day, we go for a drive over the back route towards Llanrwst and up to one of my favourite spots - the derelict cottage above Melin y Coed. The views over the mountains are spectacular today. Despite the distant haze, the far peaks are strangely more visible than usual.
Back home, we enjoy a meal of M&S goodies - King Prawn Thermidor, pasta with pesto, and White Pearl strawberries. These look rather like unripe fruit, but the ‘seeds’ are a lovely delicate pink. I enjoy them, but G finds them bland and tasteless. Perhaps it’s best not to mess with nature! Oh, and there’s a bottle of rather delicious Chardonnay too.
Unfortunately, the back/hip/leg issue continues - Madeira is becoming doubtful …..
My main today is a framed view of the Welsh Blacks (I hope!) with the blue-hazed mountains in the background. And if you think it’s a bit grainy, you’ll notice the ridiculous ISO - I forgot to check my settings!
In extras - there’s my spectacular birthday cake.
