Grytøya

The nice man in the tourist office told us about a beautiful island that we could drive to via a free ferry.  Unfortunately we woke up to white-out snow conditions which continued all day.

We found the ferry and after a short ride we were on the island of Grytøya.  I am sure it is beautiful and the web pictures look stunning.  All we saw was a blizzard but despite that we ventured out on very snowy roads and explored every corner of the island and its neighbour Bjarkøy (reached via a long tunnel)   We were glad to follow the snowploughs that were going backwards and forwards.

It was not a day for photography but we snapped a few shots.   We stopped at the only shop on Grytøya which was amazingly stocked with anything you could possibly need including beautiful veg and fruit that would put many farm shops in the UK to shame.   The staff were really friendly and we discovered they had a "cafe" upstairs in their living room where we had a long chat with the owner and his friend.   They were surprised that we would be venturing out in the car especially since we drive on the left in the UK.   To be honest,  the roads were so narrow that there really isn't a left and right side!

The main picture was taken from in front of the shop and the two extras were taken in the "cafe".

Today is the last full day of  our holiday.  Tomorrow we are driving back to the airport where we are staying in the same hotel we stopped at a week ago.  We have plans to go via a bit of coast that looks interesting.
