A day at the races

I had a tough choice today between grandparent’s day at the school or long drive to Wellington races for Addie’s return to the track. I always go to grandparent’s day so I opted for the races - it cost me some brownie points but I think I got away with it!
Addie’s performance was inglorious but that was to be expected after a couple of years in the paddock in Megalong. I still had an enjoyable day catching up with a few old acquaintances including jockeys, trainers, a bookmaker I’ve known for years and Ross, the course veterinarian. Our connection with Ross is not only through our shared profession but he also went to school with isbi in Dubbo (a few years ago now!!)
For the blip and just before I headed home, I stationed myself at the start of a later race. One of the horses knuckled over as it jumped and unceremoniously dumped the rider - he can be seen midfield amongst all the flying hooves. I went over with a few others to check his condition. He was fine but some of the language he was using indicated that he hadn’t enjoyed the experience very much!
