Last Rorbu
I promise!
I’m sure blipmates are fed up with them now.
Again our friendly Tourist information adviser was spot on with his recommendation for a drive to the tip of the peninsula just to the west of Harstad. The sun was out for about five minutes this morning then it closed in again. We had a very intrepid trip out to Elgsnes , the roads were snowy but ploughed and doable with care. There was a lovely curving bay surrounded by houses farms and a church but we didn’t see a soul. It was so remote.
We came back a little way and went to a different area, the other side of the Fjord. A little less remote where we were told we might see reindeer, which we did.
Everywhere is pretty much closed up except for the odd supermarket. Gasping for coffee we came across a Red Cross charity cafe where we had coffee and almost no one spoke English, very unusually for Norway. They had some knitted socks and mittens for sale, made by an “old lady in Senja” apparently. John Gravett and Debs are currently staying on Senja so they’ll be ok for woollen goods if necessary!. We drove down to our overnight hotel near the Airport from where we have to depart early tomorrow. We saw some beautiful scenery across the fjord. It was the clearest bit of weather we had for about four days!
