Teaching
6.45am wake up call from Morags alarm again 'have a nice day'. Checked out of Nylon Hostel and a nice man showed us what tuktuk bus to get on after us showing the address written in Burmanese by the monk. Our bags got popped on the top of it. Morag and I started trying to climb to the top but they pointed to the inside so we squeezed in with everyone. I don't think girls are aloud to sit on the top of the buses! We got dropped off right outside Phaung Daw Oo Monastery. Two of the children we had met the day before greeted us and took us to our room. They then helped us put our mossy nets up! Morag has a 'four posted bed' which is actually only for the mossy net but it is super dodgy and wobbly and squeaks an awful lot! The two girls then took us to the teachers 'staff room' We chatted to 2 of them who were so sweet but they expected us to go straight into teaching the students which was rather scary. They gave us 3 classes to do. Grade 3, 4 and 5. We asked if we could watch them today and then teach tomorrow! When we walked into the first class (grade4) all the children ran up and surrounded us both. They were all very loud and excited. We introduced ourselves at the front and asked each of their names individually! The classrooms are basic square rooms with no fans or aircon. They have really small, low wooden tables. The man teaching looked so young and didn't teach them a lot. Morag and I went around the room and helped them out. The second class (grade 5) was absolute mayhem. The teacher didn't kept them under control at all. They were learning geography and the teacher wrote out something confusing in English to do with geography and just made them all copy it out! They then played a crazy game and they all went crazy. There was one fat bully and the popular girl in the class! We had our break after that and we went to the office and chatted to a lady who organised lunch for us and showed us the library that an English women had donated to them. We had lunch with several little children watching us eat every mouthful and filling our tea cup after each sip we had taken. There was a man from Germany who has been teaching there for 2 and a half years who we chatted too. It was only us 3 eating. I almost spluttered quite a lot as the bit of chicken on our plate was crazily spicy! We had some strange peanut popcorn almost to finish with. Chatted to the cook who is the niece of the monk 'president' who runs the place. We the. Headed to our last class (grade3) for the day. They were all soooo sweet. The teacher was A LOT better than the other two and managed to keep them all under control. The all asked me what my ambition was...I couldn't say nothing so I told them I wanted to be a dancer! At the end of the lesson they all gave us masses of food...and when we left to walk to our rooms a little child ran up to us to give us a noodle snack! Morag slept for the afternoon whilst I read. The 2 little children came to our room but I told them we were having a little rest. They came again at 7 and we told them we were off to get some food but it turned out that they look gates around the place. But we went to the gate and the two children clapped to the other side of the road to a local restaurant and a man eventually made it across the road and we ordered some egg fried rice and gave him the money. He gave us the food in plastic bags. The girls took us to the kitchen to eat on the top floor of the girls dormitories. They got us a plate and put everything on it for us. We met the Charlotte again. We are getting the feeling that she doesn't really want us around! We tried tea leave salad which was really good. After we went to the girls rooms and we found some girls the same age as us. They have a wooden bed with no mattress to share between two of them. We put on some One Direction and Justin Beiber for them which they love out here. We danced to some of it and showed them a couple of ridiculous dance moves which they found hilarious. They asked if we had ever been to a night club and when we told them yes they started giggling and laughing and said omg! We asked them if they had and they said no. It was a very fun evening. Got our mossy nets sorted and I don't think we will be sleeping anytime soon as whenever Morag moves an inch the bed screams!
