Caffè Nero

We were resolutely not going to go for a ride on a gondola - on the basis that we both thought the novelty would wear off within minutes - but we did compromise and take the gondola ferry across the Grand Canal to the market.

I kept saying to people that I thought the Minx had been to Venice three or four times before, but in fact this might be her fourteenth visit!

So, the market was a good choice, as was the Da Vinci Museum later on. Apart from that we spent the day mooching about, interspersing our wanderings with stops at various bars and cafés.

Our most notable stop was at Caffè Florian on St Mark's Square, which the Minx chose because of my passion for Florian Schneider. It was delightfully retro, with the waiters all dressed in tuxedos, and very elegant. I enjoyed it enormously.

For dinner, we had been toying with returning to last night's restaurant - which was something to look forward to but also a bit of a cop-out, we felt - but in the end we found another place, which was excellent. So, good choice!
