Venice
What a birthday!
My first Extra is the view taken by leaning - not too perilously - from our bedroom window.
And the first treat was being taken to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, which I really enjoyed. As is often the case with modern art, quite a few exhibits simply passed me by, but there were a handful paintings that I particularly enjoyed, including a Pollock and also 'In un luogo indeterminato' ('In An Indeterminate Place') by Yves Tanguy, whom I've never come across before.
After that we walked across the Ponte dell'Accademia and made our way to St Mark's Square where we sat out in the sunshine under a clear blue sky and enjoyed some drinks and a light lunch. Perfect.
Our adventures continued, taking a boat across to the island of Murano, where we mooched along the canal, looked at some glassworks of various degrees of sophistication and good taste, before settling down for more drinks and something a little more substantial to eat.
... which didn't;t stop us going out for dinner at an understaffed restaurant, whose stressed staff were lovely nonetheless, as was the food. A glorious day (and we were so lucky with the weather!).
