Choose Joy

The novelist is running out of ideas

This dystopian novel I’m living in?
I think even the author is getting bored. Can’t come up with new stuff. Rehashing old stuff. We need a new plot twist!

My friend gave me roses for an opening she couldn’t make, and then gave me more roses for the next opening she couldn’t make. Eventually I put them outside. I think an animal must have tripped on this and accidentally dragged it to one of my stepping stones but it seemed to fit the state of the  universe so it is my main. A completely lovely picture of the most recent flowers is in the extra.

Today was about
Everybody cancelled on me today!
Not quite but close.
I had a meeting with my brand new business partner to discuss starting a business together. He actually forgot we were going to meet. We are doing this for the very blunt reason that we are not sure we will get new jobs. If we do get new jobs, great, we’ll do this on the side.

The place that was going to give me a MAMMOGRAM cancelled! Ok, they said they needed to reschedule. Like I wanted one anyway!

My friend who was going to walk and see the cherry blossoms …. Cancelled.

My friend who was going to get together and pick up something I want to give her …cancelled.

I guess, really, no one cancelled, everybody just postponed.

But the nice young man who used to work for me still had his birthday gathering tonight. He’s not that young. He looks young and he’s younger than me. You know how that goes. I’m so glad I went even though I didn’t want to. It was the right thing to do, it cheered me up, and I got to have very useful exchange of information.

The boring news is that I have been re-fired. What?

Ok, see, a judge said, “No one elected Elon! Congress didn’t authorize DOGE to go around ending Congressionally created agencies. This was not done by an approved person in USAID. Stop it! No RIF-ing people for 14 days! Give me an explanation of how you are going to give these people their building back when they win this lawsuit.”*

And DOGE said, no, really, a USAID person fired them all.
And the judge said, “no one, no one, anywhere, no one believes you.”*

And the crowd went wild. My mother in law was happy. My friends were happy. Everyone who worked at USAID had to tell their friends and family, “stop being happy. In 14 days Marco Rubio is just going to RIF us again.”*

*These are not literal quotes.

It has been 14 days. We have been RIF-ed again, not that we ever got official notice that we were un-RIFed.

I am now RIF-ed effective July 1 instead of April 25. This is a huge improvement because I get two more months of pay and benefits.

In my opinion, things are going to get very, very bad and my goal is to get through it. I think the next two years are going to be ugly, so very, very ugly, that things change in the next election, and then we start trying to repair. More planes will fall out of skies (FAA). There will be floods and hurricanes with little notice and thus inadequate prep (NOAA) and then houses will wash out to sea and there will be no help (FEMA). People will get a new scary disease (USAID). People won’t get vaccines (who voted for the man with a worm in his brain?) and then the US will be known as a hotbed of measles. Schools will resume discrimination (Dept of Education). Seniors will miss their checks (Social Security). Vets will go even longer without care, including care for PTSD (VA). Two more months of income matters.

Americans like being the big dog. They are going to have an adjustment when they realize no one trusts us anymore. They are going to have another adjustment when people continue to not trust us for years.

Interesting article in Business Insider.
Ukraine’s spy agency says Russia believes it needs to end the war by 2026 or it won’t be a big world power. The US and China will be the world powers. If the war continues, Russia thinks it will only be a regional player.

The US used to fund a project by Yale University’s Humanitarian Research Lab to help track thousands of children abducted by Russia. The US stopped. Yesterday the State Department said it would begin again.
