Palazzo dei Normani - including Picasso
Forecast was thunder all day, so we planned an indoor visit to the Royal Palace. We started with an unexpected visit to the Picasso exhibition which was on the lower floor. I particularly liked the picture blipped as it was a portrait of a lady who liked swimming and I enjoyed spotting the various images representing water and swimmers, within the painting. There were over 50 pictures and etchings as well as pottery, so a good exhibition.
Then to the history of the city wall, which dated back to over 800 years BC. Amazing to see and learn the history.
Then we went up to the lavish Chapel. Mosaic in gold and other bright colours depicted bible stories high up, along with geometric Mosaic patterns dating from the Arabian period. Beautiful.
Then we went into the palatial residential part of the Palace. Very grand, and still being used today for government business.
No coffee shop, so we left the Palace and went to town for a late lunch before making our way home between heavy showers.
The weather cleared in time for evening meal, so we went to town for lasagne. Again delicious. We certainly made the most of the day.
