Derrycunnily Church
Just back from a wonderful few days in North Kerry with Himself and Finola. If you ever need your belief in the kindness of humans restored (and I think we have all had this tested recently) please find an opportunity to go to North Kerry where goodness, friendliness and charm remains in abundance.
Holy wells and stained glass were on the agenda starting off with a lecture by a friend on Medieval Pilgrimage in Kerry. It was great to catch up with her again and we managed to meet for breakfast the next morning in her hotel, The Rose - do you all know about the Rose of Tralee? Google.
Several extraordinary churches were visited and around eight wells. Most wells were underwhelming, either not there or presented as a dismal dip in a boggy field but one, which involved a mighty ankle wrenching and briar-strewn trek, was there in all its glory and I am still giddy!.
The weather for the main field day was not bad at all, very windy but bright and showery. This is a view coming home as we passed through Killarney when the murk was descending. A remote valley, a gushing river, mossy trees and a tiny church. The church is in the townland of Derrycunnihy and has long been abandoned though is said to be haunted by a ghostly figure of a young girl dressed in white!
Wrecked on arrival home and the cat was thrilled to see us.
Backblips coming up.
