Joan is 90 and …

… still living in Arolla in her own apartment and she is almost blind! She had a big party in the hotel opposite where she goes every morning for her coffee. All her family were there and a few of her friends. Joan was full of reminiscences. She was the first “Swiss” I met at the age of 19 years when I arrived for my first Alpine season, turns out she was a Geordie in disguise! We have remained friends for 54 years. 

In extra some photos from a walk up to Lac Bleu before the party. Another place of pilgrimage for me. Now at my friends’ house lower down the valley and dinner is coming out. Tomorrow morning we shall ski together above Arolla and the weather is beautiful!
