Duke of Portland's Boathouse
Another clear night and bright morning predicted. So another early start (but not as ridiculous as yesterday). I went down to Ullswater hoping for some early mist on the water shooting the Duke of Portland's Boathouse, the Boathouse was there, the mist wasn't. No matter, I got setup before sunrise, the water is so low that in my position I would normally have been standing in the lake. My backup plan was to capture the morning light and reflections.
At first I was plagued by 3 Mallards which kept crossing the composition and doing their best to spoil the mirror on the still water. They finally got bored with their dabbling and flew off only to be replaced by a squad of kayakers doing their best to ruin the tranquillity. They dragged out their faffing about creating ripples across the mirror until one by one they paddled off.
The sunlight began to advance down the hill behind the boathouse and I took shots as it closed in. It was a case of trying to maximise the reflections once I had settled on the framing and taking a few different focus points. In the end when I reviewed all the shots I preferred the low sun directly lighting up the boathouse.
