London
We were up and out early this morning, to catch the bus to Edinburgh, to then catch a train to London. We had time to kill before our train, so bought a few snacks and some lunch for the journey. Our train left on time, we both got our books out, and sat back to enjoy the journey.
Our peace was broken at Morpeth by two young women who got on and sat across from us. They had their Prosecco out by 10:15, and they got louder and louder, FaceTimed people, and were very well oiled by the time we got to Kings Cross. They were planning on more drinking, food, and were going to a concert in the evening!!! We were relieved to be free of them.
It was a lovely day in London. We were able to walk to our hotel, get ourselves organised, before heading out for a wander. We walked for miles. London was so busy, with so many people. We saw many of the sights, then walked along the South Bank to Tate Modern where we crossed the river, returning on the other side.
We had planned to get some food, but rather mis-timed it, as we had tickets for the theatre. We ended up with a supermarket meal deal! We went to see The Score, starring Brian Cox. It tells the story of JS Bach’s meeting with Frederick the Great. We thought it might be rather heavy going, but it was surprisingly humorous in parts, with only a couple of bits that were more heavy going. We really enjoyed it.
We thought of going for a late dinner, but we’re both feeling weary, as it had been a long day. We walked back to our hotel, and I was glad to fall into bed, as I definitely feel like I am coming down with a cold. I had sweets and a drink at the theatre to stop me coughing, and ibuprofen to alleviate it all.
This is a view of London’s modern developments from the South Bank. The extra shows one Blackfriars, and The OXO Building.
