Staining
I recently read the excellent book “Cuddy” by Benjamin Myers, and promised myself that I would visit Durham Cathedral when I’d finished it. Today was the day. Three trains there and three trains back - a mini pilgrimage.
I was last here over 30 years ago when we lived near Shotley Bridge. The huge pillars flanking the nave were as impressive as I’d remembered, and today I climbed the 325 steps up to the top of the tower - my legs felt wobbly as I looked down at the amazing view (extras). This photo shows the lovely light from a stained glass window on the stone. I still feel sad, however, at the thought of thousands of Scots soldiers imprisoned and dying in here after the Battle of Dunbar in 1650
I also visited Crook Hall Gardens, filled with beautiful spring flowers - so many varieties of daffodil. It’s been a cracking day out :-)
