Straight paths?

Looking out of the kitchen window this morning I was intrigued by the pattern of the shadow on the concrete steps. It reminded me of a couple of verses from the book of Proverbs in the Bible.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6
