Stumped

This is a photo of the bottom of my chopping block, a tree stump by any other name.  I liked the patterns in the wood. 
The right is what remains after I had cut off about 2 inches of very soft and uneven non-wood. The removed piece is on the left, and this follows the previous removal of 2 inches just two days ago that was even more rotten. 

What I need is a new hardwood stump, preferably with a level top and level bottom. I wouldn't leave my next one open to the elements and woodlice.
