Pretty In Pink

Another long day, but not as tiring as the previous two. Mainly because we stayed in Manchester last night, so the morning was spent enjoying an all you can eat breakfast followed by relaxing in our room and watching the Japanese GP Qualifying highlights. When we eventually did have to leave, we went into the city centre for a bit of retail therapy. A reasonably successful shopping trip and not too heavy on the wallet either, due to using a combination of discounts and gift vouchers in M&S to save almost £80!
Then it was round to the O2 Apollo (via a McDonald’s for tea!) for tonight’s entertainment, the comedian Katherine Ryan. I originally had tickets to see her a couple of weeks ago in Blackpool, but realised after buying them that I had double booked with seeing Rob Beckett in Kendal on the same night. Long story short, my friend Stuart got a surprise 65th birthday present and I bought two more tickets for tonight in Manchester. Which is why we booked a hotel for last night so we didn’t have to travel down twice in two days.
Anyway, Katherine was very funny. As might have been expected, a lot of the material is based on her being a feminist, a mother and a wife. But with a lot of seemingly innocent throwaway lines that are actually very cutting comments. Those were the ones that got the biggest laughs - often with a sharp intake of breath first!
A welcome early finish though. As she said, she’s in her forties now so doesn’t want to be out too late! And nor do we. Thankfully, the motorway was a lot quieter tonight than it was yesterday afternoon so we were home and enjoying a cup of tea well before midnight.
