Formerly a birch tree...
Well, about 80% of a birch tree as there's a short length of trunk and some medium sized branches still to chop up. My chain saw is electric and the battery ran out juice.
Years ago the top snapped off this birch tree in a big storm and it had started to rot. Since it could have fallen onto the parked car, or The Red House, it had to go. It was taken down last autumn when Mike S was visiting (Thanks Mike!) but only about half the trunk was logged before the snow came.
These logs are in a very sunny spot, and somewhat sheltered from the rain so the wood should dry out nicely. You can see how some of the smaller logs have dried during the winter. I should split those large logs before they dry, but we shall see if that happens!
No walk today as we were both feeling tired, but we did spend a couple of hours doing garden jobs, clearing up the debris of winter, now the snow is almost gone from the grass.
It was a grey day and chilly enough to require padded trousers but we still sat outside when we took a break. A cup of coffee and an ice-cream(!) gave us energy for another hour or so.
