If you don't like the heat get into the kitchen

Well. Day started oddly. It's our last full day and only yesterday did the mind turn to sending a very few postcards. Turns out its Saturday and the post office is closed. Reception can't sell us any but say there is a post office Caldas De Rainha. Only open till 1. So little Toyota is squeezed out of its parking spot by the castle and off we trot. Several wrong turnings later we get parked. My phrase book Portuguese is used to ask directions and my non phrase book Portuguese tells me they say its shut! Hmmm. It also seems that tabbaconist kiosks no longer sell them. Well they will be posted in Liverpool very late tomorrow with English stamps. Not the first time.
Odd for Alma who is watering my plants though.
Pottered through the market buying fruit.
Then after more misguided turns we find our way to Alcobaca which has a phenomenal monastery complex.
We spent a couple of hours taking way too many pictures and hiding from the sun. We rewarded ourselves with some beers and souvenir shopping (including a little something for Alma). When we got back to the car after 4 the temperature was still 35 degrees.
Back to the castle and sit on the Juliet balcony opposite our room eating peaches and plums and faffing with photos. Dinner soon. And tomorrow the long drive back to Porto :-(
This is the monastery kitchen. Vast and tiled right through and over the ceiling. Amazing
