Kingsley Vale
It’s been a warm sunny day feeling more like summer than spring. This morning we visited Kingley Vale National Nature Reserve and its ancient yew woodland. The trees are awe inspiring and included a grandmother tree with a huge girth and numerous branches, some of which reached out and touched the ground to regenerate as new trees (see Extras). We walked up through the woodland of the vale’s chalk escarpment to have revealed to us a stunning view across the surrounding countryside and the coastline of Chichester Harbour with its inlets of sparkling sea.
After a warm walk back to the car, we ate lunch including ice creams in the walled garden at Stansted House. The afternoon has been fairly restful and the day rounded off with dinner and a game of Sounds Fishy - a modern take on Call My Bluff - which caused much laughter.
