Stocznia
Stocznia Gdańska means “Gdańsk Shipyard”.
I do like a ghost sign to Blip. That part of the shipyard is being redeveloped and gentrified into upmarket flats. A lot of shipbuilding and repair is still done, but much less than in the Solidarność era.
The area is a short walk from my hotel and I wandered over there this evening to explore the Montownia food hall which is part of the development. It will suit me very well, with all kinds of food and drink outlets. I went for Georgian this evening - a Megreli style khachapuri with a soul warming Adzhika sauce.
It felt slightly poignant sitting in that pseudo-hipster environment and thinking back to the Wałęsa era, martial law and General Jaruzelski as president. Meantime, the Russian border is only 100 miles away.
All that aside, it is good to be back in Gdańsk. It was nice to give my legs a wee rest. I did not have to haul my suitcase on and off any trains, and I enjoyed that.
Oh, and spring has arrived.
My Extra is the inside of the food hall. I will be working my way around it over the next few days.
