While on my runs

Karoro relocating

Arrived at work just before 0700 today, and was busy until leaving after 1600. On the way home, I stopped at Te Wai Orea (Western Springs Lake), and enjoyed a short walk with my camera. My photo of a Karoro moving from the large rock to a smaller one pleased me more than any of the other bird photos I took this afternoon.

The senior hospital specialists around the country have given notice of striking for 24 hours. The new Minister of Health has accused them of playing politics. The country is bleeding specialists in most fields to Australia which pays more and has better conditions.

When I was active in Union affairs we regarded a strike as a failure, and did not need to. Because, back then the ministry negotiated honestly. This Minister and the Ministry are doing nothing to improve the conditions our colleagues have to bear. Many services are dependent on post-retirement doctors to keep functioning. That cannot continue unchanged.
