The Modern Two

An enjoyable productive day – the dump and then B&Q where I managed to get a few strawberry plants to replace my own bare root plantings which somehow hadn’t established themselves. On round the ring road to Thistle Supplies for whin sand and cement, before the Modern Two to see the Ian Hamilton Finlay exhibition, it being 100 years since his birth. Oh my word it’s good. Stimulating. And not the nonsense of these days, oh no. What would he have made of it all – given his well documented and amusing run ins with everyone from Strathclyde Regional Council to the Scottish Arts Council, I say we have need of him. I feel moved to take up his mantle and well, I dunno, he did establish himself as Britain’s foremost concrete poet. I have the cement at least.
