Mouthful

MAUNDY THURSDAY

A much brighter day, though still on the cool side with temperatures as low as 10ºC by early evening.

A walk up to church this morning.

I continued the job of cleaning the uPVC fascias, and this afternoon worked on the south-facing side of the house. I also fitted a small piece of polycarbonate under the apex of the eaves to discourage the house martins from nesting above the path to the back door. They usually turn up towards the end of April.

While I was up the ladder—about four metres off the ground—an insect flew straight into my mouth. I thought it was a flying beetle and quickly blew it out, but on closer inspection it turned out to be a bee. Thankfully, it seemed no worse for wear and eventually flew off into the distance.

I suppose I was lucky not to have been stung—or to have taken a tumble off the ladder.

A solid result in this evening’s bowls match against Old Colwyn. Our team had seven winners (7 pts), plus two more for the aggregate. I won my own game 21–6.

It’s still early days, but we’ve made a promising start to the season in the Thursday evening league—currently sitting second in the table.
