Catalan giants
With a couple of visitors, we were able to ring all ten bells this morning. We had a few new people attending the service and it is good that we are attracting more people who are not English. In the afternoon, we decided to join the festivities down in Villefranche. The Catalan giants had arrived. They are built on a wooden frame and a strong person carries them on the inside looking out through a slit in the costume. Quite a of the giants had been brought over from Catalonia. They seemed more numerous this year. Around twenty paraded through the streets, gyrating and dancing as they went along and accompanied by drums and bagpipes. The sun shone and it was all very festive. A nougat ice cream topped off a pleasant afternoon.
