Crown Jewels

For our last day in London we visited the Tower of London. The Crown Jewels (guarded single-handedly by this handsome chap) were magnificent and really interesting and the history of the Tower was well told, from the armouries of the White Tower to the scaffold site.

When I was a little kid I had one ambition - to be a guardsman and wear the red jacket and busby hat proudly as I guarded the Queen. Today has fired my imagination again. I wonder if they would take a clapped out, forty something mum/librarian, must look into it ...
