"Something Smooth"...or maybe not so smooth?!

Thanks to Incredibish who's hosting the TT challenge again today, and in his write-up he says, "Go deep enough and everything is unsmooth, being made up of energetically bouncing atoms".

Well this shows just what he means (although I don't have an electron microscope to go really deeply into it!) . It's a fragment of glass from the beach, about 2 cm across. To the naked eye it really does look as if the sea has done an excellent job of making it smooth, but on this macro shot (lit with an bright torch, hence the deep shadow) it doesn't look nearly as smooth. Appearances can be deceptive!
