A drive in 'country'
was really a road rally
that I didn't like

It was all my fault. I slept in. Leaving the house at 8 means I'm in the morning rush that is not to my liking at all. This morning I'd decided to drive to Monte Lake on Hwy 97. I luckily heard on my car radio about a traffic snarl enroute and took evasive action. Nonetheless, it was not really a pleasant drive at this late in the morning. I like peace and quiet!
I made the wetlands on Highway 97 my first stop. I peeked into the waterway to see ducks and geese enjoying themselves.
I drove on to Monte Lake where I could use pullouts to view from various angles. It was a chilly 5 C and I had to admire the fisherman I found already out on the lake. The lake is higher in elevation than the Thompson Valley. It is just beginning to look like spring. The willows have colour and there's green on the ground but there's snow lingering on the hilltops. The hillsides above the lake that were ravaged by a forest fire are starting to show some new growth. I stood where the fire had come right down to the lake. I could see burned trunks with fresh greens starting to take over. I'm sad to say I won't live long enough to see this area totally recovered.
I got back on the rather hectic 97, then turned onto Barnhartvale Road to return home. I began to relax as it's a lovely drive through farms and ranches. When I stopped to test my cell phone I got a shot of an egg hutch at the end of a driveway. I wondered if the farmer was still stocking it and if customers were still using the honour system for payment. My last stop in the area caught horses on a hill. Barnhartvale has lots of horses and other livestock.
I made my way back down to the TransCanada Highway and through the city towards home. Just a block from my house I found this little doe grazing in a front yard. She's looking very shaggy as she loses her winter coat.
I'm in for the day. My daughter is working on cleaning out the garage so I will no doubt be called on as a consultant for the project.
