Grumpy Old Man

Our last day

We set off on a dull morning to walk a 2 mile circuit through the nearby woods to visit a 30ft waterfall, Falling Foss. Not a great walk - muddy path, felled forestry, but we arrived at the Falling Foss Tea garden as a few spots of rain began to fall. The tables are all outside, but we found one with an umbrella and enjoyed coffee and cake. The waterfall was nearby - my Blip today.

We had a picnic lunch in the car on our return to the car park, then drove back towards Whitby where I'd read that there was a car park next to a holiday park from where a footpath led down to Saltwick Bay, a popular spot for fossil hunting. Quite a steep walk down, but it was good to find a beach with very few people on it - my extra today. Had a good hunt, but found no fossils, just some interesting stones. (Actually I found a huge fossil fish - second extra!)

Back to the cottage as the sun came out, so tea on the lawn in shirtsleeves! Now we're off to buy fish and chips to eat with a view of the sea in Whitby, weather permitting! Off for home tomorrow.

Quote of the Day: 'If somebody tries to tell me the earth was created in 7 days I take a fossil and say "FOSSIL". If he still won't shut up I throw it at him.' - Lewis Black.
