An ordinary life....

A gift to myself...

Woke up just after 8am and decided to get the covid test over and done with to find out if our weekend plans to get together with Agnes and Adrian would be all systems go.  They are!!! :-)) Negative result.  Phew!

Got some chores out of the way that I've not had the energy for so far this week.  That felt good.

After lunch I crocheted some more of Baby Alfie's pram blanket.  The pattern is so easy I was able to listen to Kirsty Young's podcast Young Again.  This time she was interviewing Grayson Perry.  Another great interview and I was struck once again, about how those I've heard her interview have had very difficult childhoods either due to the death of parents when they were young, or more commonly abusive, neglectful, narcissistic parents.  Very sad but interesting how that background contributes so strongly to the adults they become, and to a certain extent, their success.

Just as the podcast ended, the postman delivered this book.  Written by fellow blipper Kelvyn (journal Intothehills)  If you're unfamiliar with his journal I can certainly recommend it, and his book.  It won't be an easy read but ultimately uplifting, I can't wait to get started.  What an amazing man.  I suspect chores will be neglected until I've finished it.

Made spaghetti carbonara for dinner.  D and I laughed as we reminisced about the first time I ever made it for us.  We were eighteen years old and D's mum was on holiday so we were playing house and I decided to make a special three course dinner for us.  Toast and pate to start, easy peasy :-) Spaghetti carbonara for main (I am sure it was a Delia Smith recipe) and mint Viennetta for dessert. Oh, and a bottle of Mateus Rose :D

Starter was a breeze. Can't really go wrong with toasting bread.  The carbonara was an all together more complicated experience and we basically sat down to eat spaghetti with chopped bacon and scrambled eggs!  I can still see D's confused expression as I put his plate down in front of him, but he manfully dug right in, ate the lot and said it was delicious!  What a hero :D

Thankfully I learned from that experience and tonights carbonara sauce was smooth as silk.  But I still hold my breath every time I make it :-)

The biggest shock we had was realising that meal happened in 1985.  Forty years ago. FORTY?!!!! That brought our laughter to an abrupt end!
