Every Picture Tells .....

Chester Cathedral

FRIDAY

After Prue's physiotherapy appointment at The Grosvenor Hospital, we headed into Chester for some lunch and a bit of shopping.

I took a little time out and wandered over to Chester Cathedral for some quiet reflection.

The photo shows the Union Flag hanging in the South Transept of the cathedral. It is the actual Union Flag that flew on HMS Chester during the Battle of Jutland. The ship was hit by seventeen 150mm shells, with twenty-nine men killed and forty-nine wounded.

Later that year, in 1916, the flag was brought to the cathedral and laid to rest with full naval honours.
