It's a morning so
bright and beautiful that I
had to get outside!

I waited until 7:30 to leave the house with hopes the sun would be high enough not to blind me as I drove up the hill to Paul Lake.

I started watching the hillsides for horses. I could see a herd trailing along a ridge to the south below Mt. Paul. They were kicking up dust as  they moved along. I found a pair of horses having a quiet time together.

I stopped to admire the balsamroot in full bloom on the sunniest slopes. That bright yellow really catches the eye.

I parked on the west edge of Paul Lake to get a shot looking east into the sun. I walked around the edge and found a red-winged blackbird in a pine. Then I spotted a pair of osprey on the old nest atop a dead tree. I'm encouraged to see they've returned.

I had a brief chat with a pair of fisherman launching their boat into the lake, then I turned for home.

I'm hoping to have a quiet day to myself. We'll see how that goes!
