The alphabet

This afternoon Mr hazelh and I set off along the cycle paths to the coast to see the displays at the Newhaven Maritime Festival. We took advantage of the opportunity to visit the Victorian school room in the old Victoria Primary School. Amongst the exhibits was bench seating just like that we were still using in Teesside in some classrooms in the 1970s, and this chart, the contents of which are very familiar to me. This shows the version of cursive writing that I was taught in Junior 1.

We learnt one letter each week:

- If you managed to fill a page of perfect text on Monday afternoon, you were excused from practising the letters on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and were allowed to sit and read a book instead.
- If you managed to fill a page of perfect text on Tuesday afternoon, you were excused from practising the letters on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and were allowed to sit and read a book instead.
- If you managed to fill a page of perfect text on Wednesday afternoon...

I loved reading so did my best to be one of the first children excused from writing practice. Although I no longer write like this now, you can see echoes of the letter forms in my 'best' writing.

Exercise today: small amount of walking (8,774 steps).
