THE COLLECTIONS GO ON - WHETHER IT'S SUNDAY OR NOT
We had a great service at Church this morning - some good worship songs and then a sermon with some congregational participation, when we all read a couple of Psalms out loud - as Clive, the preacher for today told us, in “olden days” i.e. in Bible times, people would read scripture together, something that we don’t do very often. He then asked us what “jumped out at us” from the two Psalms, and then elaborated on the answers he was given.
Clive’s theme was “Overcoming Despair and Anguish” and he reminded us that we didn’t need expensive counsellors, but that God was always there and always ready to listen to us, whether we were praising Him or just generally getting things “off our chest”!
You know by now that I wander around the Church looking for things that “take my eye” on a Sunday morning and today was no exception, because I wasn’t singing with the Worship Group today.
The roses in the foyer looked beautiful and amazingly, I don’t think I have ever noticed the banner above the table which shows who we are and our “strapline” - and most Churches seem to have one these days - and sets out our mission statement - and of course, if we don’t know God, how can we make Him known to others?
I rather liked the banner on the right with the words, “I am the Resurrection and the Life” - with the sun shining through onto the side of it, which I thought added to the words.
After the service, I went into the kitchen and those on the Coffee Rota today were surprised when I said that I wanted to take a photograph of the coffee - and tea - cups and the biscuits - and today there just happened to be cake, because someone will be celebrating their birthday later this week. However, one clever lady realised that I was looking for shots for my Blip!
Underneath the cups are all the ribbons and a few of the instruments that the children use during the early part of the service, before they go out to their classes - something they all seem to enjoy.
Last, but not least, is a photograph of Gary, one of our Deacons - carrying lots of bags of potatoes, so I had to get a shot of that. You may remember that in my Community Fridge Blip last Thursday, I said that we had Hot Cross Buns - HCBs - and not Honeycombebeaches - coming out of our ears - well today, we have a potato mountain and there are hundreds of bags of potatoes! Volunteers from Church still collect food, even on a Sunday, before, during and after the service and of course, for many in business, Sunday is just another day - so we have to collect the surplus food when it is ready.
Heather is confident that all these bags - see my extra - and this is just a small selection - and many more, will all be gone by the end of next week and I do hope she’s right. In fact, everyone who was still there before the doors were locked, all went out with a bag of potatoes!
Hope you all have a great week - be blessed - the weather is set to be good all week, so enjoy it. M xx
P.S. Many thanks to you all for the good wishes, stars and hearts for my 4,500th Blip yesterday - I didn’t realise it was a special day, but the Silly Saturday Gang reminded me and told me about your lovely comments, and were even kind enough to share the chocolates - which made the day even more special!
