Chateau

After a night of thunder, lightning and heavy rain, not to mention some limited but slightly worrying tent-leakage, it then proceeded to rain all day, pretty much, though admittedly with not quite the same intensity. So we went to the castle in Annecy. There was a pretty good exhibition of artwork (mainly sculpture) featuring St. Anthony, a pretty big cheese, saint-wise, around here in Medieval times (tempted by devils, bones retrieved from the Holy Lands and used to cure illness, was given a pet pig by an angel as a companion, cool hat, etc.), and some truly terrible modern art. Then we had a wander around the Galeries Lafayette (already running out of wet weather ideas) and ate some decent pastries in the café (though the coffee was from a machine and rivalled the motorway stuff for mediocrity.) Luckily the weather finally cleared up enough for a pleasant evening stroll along the lakeside as far as the municipal beach at Saint-Jorioz (they stop charging an entry fee at teatime so we flt compelled to go in and watch some more hearty stragglers still throwing themselves off the diving platform…)
