Lake Annecy

We went into Annecy to get our bearings, and a load of maps and things from the very friendly Tourist Information office next to the library. Then we checked out the weekly market, which was pretty cool, stretching out along the narrow streets of the Old Town and across the bridges over the canal. It was really busy, though, and you had to shuffle along amidst the crowds, past stalls laden with fruit and vegetables, local sausages and cheeses and the street theatre of vendors demonstrating the latest miracle gadgets for cleaning windows or slicing carrots. We ate an ice cream. Later on there were storm warnings on the campsite notice boards and everyone was re-hammering tent pegs and generally battening down the hatches.
