Jane and Arabella.
Today's blip is of very low standard, for which, my apologies; the pic was taken within an hour of me finishing the 24 hour race, I was tired, and I need practice with moving targets. Of a very high standard was Jane's and Arabella's ride of, as near as dammit, 350 miles (subject to ratification) setting a new competition record. They looked very comfortable throughout the ride until the last hour or so - which is exactly as it should be. I hope that they come back again next year to put the bar a bit higher.
As for myself, my performance was a bit below par, I was hoping for 300 miles but, without having done the preparation this was wildly optimistic. I was credited with 234 but, after appeal, it was amended to 276; it is handy using a satnav as the track log meant that I could provide evidence of where I was at any given time during the race. It is the fourth successive year that I've had this problem - it beats me how the recorders can miss one of only two trikes passing them when the cycle is fitted with half a dozen bright flashing lights arranged in a conspicuous arrangement impossible to achieve on a two wheeler, but there you go. It bothers me since a major reason for riding is to compare myself with others, I can substantiate my claim for my distance but, I wonder how many people know their true mileage and, if they do, manage to end up being credited with their actual performance.
That said, it is a great event to ride, every one is encouraging and helpful and you meet many old friends.
The training for next year starts now.
