Small Tortoiseshell

Only a few days ago I said that I hadn't seen more than a handful of small tortoiseshell butterflies this year. That's all changed now - down at the allotment this morning I noticed that the lavender on my neighbour's plot was attracting lots of butterflies, particularly small whites but and I also counted at least a dozen of these wonderful tortoiseshell butterflies.
